How to change a room into a Regency study
A study in history
This MDF room box measures approximately 20 inches wide and 10 inches tall and 10 inches wide. A aperture was cut for a window on one side, and another for the fireplace in the other but works with your fixtures in a ready made doll's house.

The wallpaper is from Susan Bembridge Designs who specialises in accurate period designs.

Cornices and skirting board were fitted leaving an unglued joint between the chimney and wall for the removable chimney. These were then sanded, painted with three coats of antique white acrylic paint the when dry a coat of acrylic gloss varnish was applied to seal them.

Fireplace
As the gentleman's study would have been an important room for the home owner, it would have had a detailed fire surround and significantly large chimney breast. This chimney breast is made of ½ inch MDF and is 5 inches wide. It is made to be removable.

We used a ready made fire surround of a suitable period design. The fire place can be left plain, or you can add interest by highlighting some of the decoration with antique gold leaf paint. Use a ready made coal effect fire grate to complete the fireplace.

Breakfront bookcase
We've made several changes to the bookcase to make it more suitable for a room of this period. We improved the shape of the pediment, changed the doors and the glazing, and changed the two lower doors into two sets of false drawers.

We also painted simulated figuring to the two lower doors before staining and polishing, and added a plinth to the base. We cut out pictures of book spines to suit the length of each shelf.

All the furniture has been stained with Colron wood dye
The display table has been filled with handmade and painted butterflies, but you could use stamps or any other collection to suit your dolls' house

The desk has been made from a kit and the top has been changed to red to match the wallpaper. A white feather has been used for the quill and soft pieces of leather have been used to make a book.

The table and chair are also made from kits. The table is painted with two coats of raw umber acrylic paint, and sealed with a coat of gloss acrylic varnish.

Pictures have been framed with oval frames that have been painted with silver leaf paint. Here a group of pictures work better than a single image.
